Postdoctoral Opportunity: Sea Spray Modeling in Marine Boundary Layers

A qualified candidate is invited to apply for a National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Postdoctoral Fellowship to be hosted within a multi-year research project at the Department of Marine Environment and Engineering, National Sun Yat-sen University (Kaohsiung, Taiwan). The successful applicant will receive full support in preparing the fellowship proposal, and the appointment will be contingent on the fellowship award.

Project Description

Sea spray plays a critical role in air-sea exchange processes at high wind speeds, affecting momentum flux, heat transfer, and tropical cyclone intensification. Despite its importance, the physics of sea spray generation, transport, and evaporation remain poorly understood due to the multi-scale nature of the problem.

This project will develop Euler-Lagrangian modeling capabilities for sea spray within an existing multiphase code framework for wind-wave interactions (OpenFOAM). The research has direct applications to typhoon prediction and offshore wind energy around Taiwan.

Candidate Profile

  • PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Ocean Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related field
  • Good publication record
  • Experience with multiphase CFD
  • Programming skills in C++; experience with OpenFOAM code development is a major asset
  • Proficiency in academic English

Application

Please contact asim.onder@mail.nsysu.edu.tw to discuss the project and the fellowship application process. Applications should include a CV and a summary of research accomplishments and interests.

Review of applicants will start immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Only suitable candidates will be contacted.
